What Is A Dental Bridge?

Dental bridges are designed to bridge the gaps where teeth are missing. A fake tooth known as a pontic, made out of various materials is put in place of the missing tooth, and a bridge is designed to hold that tooth in place by attaching it to the remaining teeth that surround it. There are three types of bridges available: traditional, Cantilever, and Maryland bonded. All three have their uses depending on how many teeth are missing or which ones need replacing.

A dental bridge is made up of two crowns, one on each tooth on each side of the gap, and one or more artificial teeth. The crowns are called abutment teeth and hold the dental bridge in place. Bridges are made from porcelain fused to an underlying frame made of metal. Just like regular dentures, dental bridges must be fitted to the mouth of the person who will be using them. They must be cleaned regularly and may eventually need to be replaced.

When Do I Need A Bridge?

When-Do-I-Need-A-Bridge

Missing teeth can make the other teeth in your mouth drift and tilt, causing more damage to your mouth. A bridge can help you maintain the remainder of your teeth, and strengthen your jaw bone and muscles back to its original strength.

Damaged teeth are harder to clean, as well. This means that tooth decay and gum disease can affect the rest of your teeth, causing you to end up losing more teeth in the long run. Getting a bridge helps your dentist keep the rest of your mouth in healthier shape, and helps you take better care of the rest of your teeth.

  • This place has great dentist. I had gone to other dental offices and they all gave me only one option for a tooth that was hurting a lot. It was to pull the tooth. My cousin goes to A1 and she told me about the place. They were able to do a root canal and save my tooth. I was so happy. Great place and great people. Love the staf.
