Our Team of dental professionals is here to help you with your dental sealant.
Dental sealant is a thin plastic resin applied to the teeth with deep fissures and pits, usually the molars and premolars. Because the back teeth have deep grooves and hollows that can trap food, they are difficult to clean completely, even with good brushing practices, Consequently, they suffer the most cavities. By coating the the top of the tooth with a durable sealant, food particles and bacteria can’t rot the enamel.
The sealant fills in the pits and makes a more smooth surface that brushing can easily cleanse. Some people have front teeth with deep fissures, too, which can benefit from a sealant.
Because young children must learn effective dental hygiene and are the least likely to accomplish it, they are good candidates for dental sealants. It’s best to administer the treatment as soon as the permanent molars have come in. Since cavities need very little time to develop, sealing the teeth before they can succumb to deterioration makes good sense.
In some cases, sealing baby teeth may be indicated, especially if they are in danger of significant decay before the permanent teeth emerge. Adults with no decay should consider the procedure, but filled teeth would receive no help.
